Dr. Nguyễn Tấn Dương was a student at the Huế University of Education (English). In April 1975 he came to the United States with other Vietnamese refugees. The upheaval interrupted his studies for a year, but he continued in America, completed his bachelor’s degree in 1979 and began training for ministry in Florida. In 1980 he was ordained at First Baptist Church, St. Petersburg, Florida, where he served as Director of Asian Ministries.
He earned a BA in Mississippi in 1979, a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1984 and a Doctor of Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri, in 1995.
While studying, he served at an American Baptist church in Clearwater, Florida (1979–1980); the Vietnamese Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida (1980–1982); the Vietnamese Baptist Church in East Bank, New Orleans, Louisiana (1982–1984); and the Baptist church in Tulsa, Oklahoma (1984–1991). Dr. Thomas Lê Thành Toàn
Mục sư Tiến Sĩ · D.Min.Pastor Le immigrated from Vietnam to the U.S. in 1978 as a teenager with his family. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1987 and worked as a software engineer in telecommunication, point of sales and applied technology research.
His fifteen-year engineering career brought him a sense of personal achievement, but spiritually he felt that something was missing. In 2001, with the suggestion and support of his boss, Pastor Le and his wife went back to Vietnam for a visit. There he sensed the call into ministry: being a follower of Christ was not enough, and he wanted to invest his life so others could hear about the love of God and salvation in Jesus Christ.
He resigned from his job and entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in January 2002, graduating with a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages in December 2004. During his last year at Southwestern, he helped plant Plano VBC. His mission is to fulfill the Great Commission among the Vietnamese and Asian people living in the North Dallas area.
In December 2017 he completed his Doctor of Ministry at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He continued to serve as a pastor and took part in denomination and mission projects, which opened new opportunities for joint ministry.
In 2019, by an overwhelming vote of the congregations, Plano VBC and Richardson VBC merged to become Redeemer Baptist Church of Plano. Pastor Le continues to serve and anticipates new church growth under the leadership of the new Senior Pastor, John Nguyen (Dr. Nguyễn Tấn Dương).
